Basic rules for providing distance learning at the Faculty of Medicine

Dear Students.
Beginning on 23-rd March 2020 by the decision of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in accordance with the recommendation of Rector’s Team for Distant Learning the following rules for providing the distant learning are introduced.

  1. Distance learning (obligatory and optional courses) can be delivered in two modes: asynchronous and synchronous. Conducting distance learning classes will be treated equally as traditional methods. All distant learning classes must be reported to the Dean’s Office (dl@umed.wroc.pl).
  2. In asynchronous mode students will get access to the teaching materials (presentations, essays, recorded lectures etc.) in electronic form. These materials have to be uploaded by the teachers exclusively to the University cloud (ownCloud: https://owncloud.umed.wroc.pl), located there in appropriate folders and must be accessible at any time. Students will get access to these materials by links to ownCloud sent by teachers to group leaders or study years (depending on the character of classes). Asynchronous mode classes must possess elements that allow for the assessment of the effects of teaching (essays or other tasks that have to be completed by students in short, determined time – for example till the next day after classes). Completion of these tasks on time by individual students could serve as confirmation of their presence in classes and constitute the basis for crediting the classes. Teachers are obliged to prepare a list of students present in each individual class. Asynchronous mode classes does not have to be synchronized with the general schedule of teaching.
  3. Synchronous mode classes can be conducted in the form of teleconference or in other form of remote, electronic contact between teacher and students in real time. Any type of free application can be used for this purpose, however Webex, Zoom and Discord are recommended. Despite the type of communication it must provide the ability to control the student’s presence in classes. Teachers are obliged to prepare a list of students present in each individual class. Every synchronous mode class must allow assessment of the effects of teaching achieved by individual students. Assessing these effects can be performed in synchronous as well as asynchronous mode. Presence in classes and positive result of assessment constitute the basis for crediting the classes. Classes conducted in synchronous mode must be synchronized with the general schedule of teaching. Classes conducted using the Discord system prepared by ED students must not overlap with the general schedule of teaching.
  4. Contact between the teachers and group leaders or study years (or other students) can be established solely using official University electronic domains (@umed.wroc.pl for teachers and @student.umed.wroc.pl for students). Teachers decide about the method (uploading to ownCloud or e-mailing) of delivery of students’ works, however all contacts cannot exceed the University domains.

Opinions and questions regarding the introduction of distance learning can be sent to Dean’s Office (dl@umed.wroc.pl). Questions regarding usage of Discord application can be directed to Kamran Hennessy (Kamran.hennessy@student.umed.wroc.pl) representing ED students.

With kind regards
