The acting Rector of Wroclaw Medical University prof. Piotr Ponikowski provided the employees and students of our University with information on the current epidemiological situation.
Dear All,
I know that in recent days you have been receiving a lot of information related to the epidemiological situation at the University which raise concerns. I would like to provide you with confirmed and reliable data on the current situation.
There is no case of infection at the University at the moment. There are three people who have had contact with infected people. One of them is a student of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the second one is an employee of administration of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the third one is an employee of the central administration. We have taken immediate action in these cases in accordance with the guidelines of the chairwoman of the crisis management team prof. Brygida Knysz. These persons have been put under house quarantine.
With a view to the safety of our students and employees, which is of most importance to me, yesterday (15/3/2020) I asked the Chairwoman of the University Election Commission to change the election calendar and postpone further rounds of the election of the electors and, consequently, the election of the rector. Today (16/3/2020) at 4:00 p.m., I convened an extraordinary Senate meeting in this matter.
I have no doubt that efficient communication is crucial in today's situation. That is why a special tab is being created on the University's website, where all information about the epidemiological situation, recommendations, but also decisions and actions taken by the University's authorities will be placed. Please check the information published there on a regular basis.
We also want to make it easier for you to contact us and ask questions; from now on you can do so via e-mail at koronawirus@umed.wroc.pl. These questions will be sent to the members of the crisis management team, so the responses will be reliable and credible.
The University works and performs the tasks entrusted to us on an ongoing basis; we are learning how to function in the new conditions and adapt to them. Thank you for your help, understanding and responsible attitude.
At today's Rector's and Dean's Council, we discussed the situation related to the suspension of classes. I would like to thank those of you who have already prepared solutions within their units. The team led by prof. Piotr Dzięgiel - Vice Rector for Educational Affairs is now working on global solutions, which we will inform you about.
For my part, as the acting rector, but above all the doctor, I have a huge request to you – take care of your health, follow the recommendations and pass them on to people in your surroundings.
Piotr Ponikowski
The acting Rector of Wroclaw Medical University
