Dear Students,
Virginia Tech Carillion School of Medicine, our academic partner university within the framework of the signed cooperation and student exchange agreement, offers clinical elective placements in one of affiliated teaching hospital, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, located in Ronaoke:
Students may apply for rotation in the specialties listed below:
Cardiology
Emergency Medicine
Family Medicine
Internal Medicine
Neurology & Neurosurgery
Obstetrics and Gynecology
Orthopedics / MSK Surgery
Pain Management
Pediatrics
Psychiatry
Surgery
Scope of apprenticeship: for 2 weeks in each unit
General rules:
• Faculty of Medicine, 5th year, also English Division
• Number of places: 2
• Period: 6-31.08.2018 or 13.08-7.09.2018 (4 weeks)
Requests for electives of longer durations or at other times of the year will not be accepted.
Selection criteria:
• GPA from all years of studies confirmed by the dean's office,
• fluent knowledge of English (C1) documented by language certificate or language test results based on an examination at the Foreign Language Center at WMU,
• documented additional achievements and activities to the University
Conditions:
• student cover all costs of air fare, accommodation and meals
• it is each student's responsibility to inform themselves about visa and immigration regulations. Students are advised to apply for visas (only US B-1 Business visitor visa) as soon as possible after accepting an elective offer
• mandatory travel and health insurance
• current vaccinations: tuberculosis, measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, hepatitis B
• drug testing
• having your own stethoscope and protective medical clothing
• scholarship in the amount of USD 1000.00 granted by the Kosciuszko Foundation
• transfer from / to the airport is provided
Required documents:
• student's full name (photo in document format + email address+ phone)
• faculty, year, field of study
• certificate from the dean's office confirming the GPA
• copy of additional achievements, activities in student unions/associations etc.
• optional: copy of the language certificate
Incomplete applications will not be processed.
Date and place of submitting documents:
International Relations Office (Rector's building, 2nd floor, room 23) until 12/03/2018.
After verification of the submitted applications, our office will inform students qualified for the competition.
