Recommendations for universities regarding the risk of coronavirus.

Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (pol.: Główny Inspektor Sanitarny) issued recommendations to higher educational institutions in view of the potential risk of the emergence of a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in Poland. Wroclaw Medical University is monitoring on an ongoing basis the situation of students and employees that are in the areas where the cases of the disease were reported.

There are currently no guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) or by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) to impose surveillance on persons returning from Asian countries if they do not meet the eligibility criteria for further procedures.

A person who complies with CLINICAL AND EPIDEMIOLOGICAL CRITERIA shall be subject to the procedures:

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL CRITERIA:

CLINICAL CRITERIA: Any person presenting with one or more of these symptoms of an acute respiratory infection:

* fever

* cough

* dyspnoea

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL CRITERIA: Any person who, over a period of 14 days prior to the onset of symptoms, met at least one of the following criteria:

* has travelled/resided in an area where sustained SARS-CoV-2

transmission is suspected

* has been in close contact with a person who was

diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection (contact with a confirmed or

probable case)

* has worked or stayed as a visitor in a health care

facilities treating patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection

IMPORTANT in the event of persons returning from the area of sustained virus transmission (a list of these places can be found on webpage see below), it is recommended to consult the nearest Sanitary - Epidemiological Station even if none of the disease symptoms occurred.

At the meeting of the Crisis Management Team in the Ministry of Health, recommendations for those leaving for and returning from Italy are being developed. Initially, they assume prompt contact with the State Sanitary Inspectorate upon return. If possible, travels to these regions should be cancelled.
